A brief word from your poker society members...
MATT - SOCIETY PRESIDENT
I started the poker society two and a half years ago during my freshers year. I wanted to socialize more and felt this would give me the opportunity to meet a range of different people, but with one thing in common; Poker!
The club was an instant success, starting with an average of around 40 sign-ups in the first year. The society has continued to expand, now averaging with 40-60 members. We had around 15-20 new sign ups this year alone.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT POKER?
It is very much a thinking game. It takes a lot of skill and is hard to master, always with new things to learn! There are different styles and approaches. Winning money is also always a good thing!!
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE CLUB?
It has a good atmosphere with a bunch of nice people! Members come to have a good time and to socialize within a positive atmosphere. Ive always received good feedback and it is interesting to teach and watch peoples skills in the game grow.

Ive only been a member since the start of the first semester in 2013. I originally learned to play poker online but I like coming to the club better, not only for the game, but for the socializing aspect. Its fun to just sit around to talk and socialize with mates.
I found out about the society through the freshers fair where I signed up, and was bought along to my first social event by a friend.

Ive been a member for just over a semester after I found out about the society through a friend. I had an interest in poker before I joined, because my dad taught me when I was younger, but I have definitely played more since joining.
I really enjoy the game and the thrill of pulling off the bluffs, of course winning is also good- when it happens!
The free pool and darts is also perfect for me; I mainly go to socialize as Im never left in the games long enough to play poker!

Ive been a member of poker soc since it first started. I was actually the first name on the sign up sheet! I had an interest originally in poker and I play it online a lot. I like the strategy of the game and how you have to choose between a load of different moves and decisions. I also really loved the competitiveness.
However its the social side that the club gives me that the online poker doesnt! All the members are such nice people and it is definitely my favorite society, its the most fun!
